WHAT IS TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE?
Trauma-informed care shifts the focus from, "what's wrong with you?" to "what happened to you?". Why is this important? You see, unresolved trauma can manifest in many ways, including anxiety disorders, panic attacks, intrusive memories (flashbacks), obsessive-compulsive behaviors, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, self-injury and a variety of physical symptoms. This means that trauma is a costly public health problem. Trauma can result from any situation or event that causes physical and/or emotional harm — whether it’s abuse, violence, war, disaster, or growing up with a parent with addiction or mental illness.
Does it matter where I get my trauma training?
Yes! The new standard of care calls for “evidence-based” approaches — and for good reason! Evidence-based treatment (EBT) is backed by scientific evidence from extensive studies and research that show it has been successful. The goal of EBT is to encourage the use of safe and effective treatments. And trauma-informed care is grounded in evidence-based treatment principles. That’s why our courses focus on teaching you evidence-based practices.
