This article compares the Disorders of Extreme Stress NOS (DESNOS) and PTSD diagnoses to show that there is a need to expand upon our understanding about the ongoing psychological, biological and social after-effects of trauma. It outlines 6 criteria identified by the authors’ research as valid elements of the DESNOS diagnosis.
