32 HOURS of mental health-related continuing education, within the previous 2-year period.
Home study: up to 20 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal period.
For LIMHP and LMHPs, 2 of these 32 hours must relate to Mental Health Ethics.
If you hold multiple licenses/certificates, you are NOT required to earn separate CE hours for each credential. You must have completed a total of 32 hours/2 in ethics.
All licenses and certificates expire on September 1st of every even-numbered year (2016, 2018, etc.), regardless of when it was issued.
Effective September 1, 1996, the Board of Mental Health Practice no longer approves continuing education offerings, but may accept as continuing education for licensure and certification renewal, learning experiences as set out in the following attachments, provided they are planned and conducted for mental health practitioners, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, or social workers, and if they are related to mental health practice.
State laws can change. Practitioners are responsible for determining their state’s licensure requirements. To view your state’s continuing education regulations, click the link below.
