All licenses and certificates expire on September 1st of every even-numbered year (2016, 2018, etc.), regardless of when it was issued.

To renew a License, you must have earned at least 32 HOURS (different than a CEU) of mental health-related continuing education, within the previous 2-year period.

For LIMHP and LMHPs, 2 of these 32 hours must relate to Mental Health Ethics.

If you hold multiple licenses/certificates, you are NOT required to earn separate CE hours for each credential. You must have completed a total of 32 hours/2 in ethics.

CE Memorandum. (This does not apply to provisional license/certs.)

Effective September 1, 1996, the Board of Mental Health Practice no longer approves continuing
education offerings, but may accept as continuing education for licensure and certification renewal,
learning experiences as set out in the attachments, provided they are planned and
conducted for mental health practitioners, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors,
or social workers, and if they are related to mental health practice.
Continuing education offerings for individuals who hold a social work certificate, but are not
licensed as a mental health practitioner, must relate to the practice of social work.
